Empty Homes Working Group
An effective voids process and policy can maximise rent and revenue, reduce ongoing repairs and maintenance costs, offer fit-for-purpose properties for prospective tenants and contribute to local communities but the process around the re-letting of empty homes can be challenging for social housing providers.
In September 2023, we launched a six-month Empty Homes sub-group. The group focused on best practice approaches and methodology in the effective management of the void process. The programme was facilitated by Debbie Larner, an experienced, qualified and dedicated Chartered Housing Professional with over 30 years of experience working in the housing sector – both in front line roles and for housing’s professional body, the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH).
The programme finished in March 2024, with over 270 people attending the sessions. A huge thank you to everyone who was able to attend and contributed to the overall success of the programme.
A report summarising the work of the group was released in July 2024. You can read the full report here.
