Regenerative Sustainability Group
EIP teamed up with regenerative sustainability provocateurs and consultants Martin Brown and Anna Williamson to deliver a seven-month programme exploring regenerative principles within the social housing sector.
Chaired by Luke Driscoll, Director of Asset Management at the Hyde Group, it brought together organisations to move their environmental, social and sustainability approaches beyond business as usual to a regenerative approach that delivers real value and benefit.
A thought leadership paper based around the work of the group was launched in June 2023 and a copy can be found here.
Nature Day 1 – Rampion Wind Farm
In August members went to the Rampion Offshore windfarm in the first of two site visits offered through the programme.
Situated in the English Channel off the Sussex coast it comprises 116 wind turbines covering 70sqkm and has an installed capacity of 400 megawatts. It will generate 1,400 gigawatt hours of green power annually, reducing C02 emissions by 600,000 tonnes each year.
The group met in Brighton where they were taken out to the site by boat and enjoyed a guided tour before heading back to dry land for a working lunch and discussion about the visit.
Nature Day 2 – Kew Gardens
Kew Gardens was the location for the second visit, in December, and members were given a guided tour by the very knowledgeable Janet who talked to the group about the regenerative and restorative nature of fungi and how it recycles what is around it, as well as how nature communicates with itself symbiotically.
After the tour the group enjoyed a discussion around mindfulness and the grounding presence of nature over lunch before enjoying the light displays of the Christmas at Kew event.
